The Best Dad Ever

So my Mom, Victoria, and I arrived in GAP, an hour or so later we left GAP. I bought a white top with a flower and a floral top. I was so pumped about the tops because this floral top is the first floral top in my whole wardrobe. As us girls know, when we buy clothing we hope every single person we meet will compliment us.To our dismay it usually doesn't happen. Bummer. So I wore the floral top the next day. I got one compliment from Aunt Cynthia. Stink only one compliment. But the next time I wore it I got the best, most memorable compliment I will ever get. It was from my Dad.

So I entered the kitchen and Daddy looks at my shirt and says, "Hannah is that a new shirt?”

I replied, "Yes sir."

"Well Hannah, that is a very pretty shirt" my wonderful Father comments. He kind of squints at the sleeves and says, "It has a cool hem on it too."

I love you Dad. I miss you. Have fun in Baltimore. You are the best dad in the world, and I mean it.

Part One

So I am reading the newspaper and come a cross this head line
Wild dogs killed woman, then her husband

the fate of the animals has not yet been decided

I am sorry, but if any wild dogs kill someone and have been captured, they need to be put down, and this got me thinking of my perfect (OK maybe not perfect)dog.

Once upon a time there was a little girl who asked here mother if she could have a dog. Her mother had said she had to wait till they moved into their new house and their sod had to have the roots grow deep in to the ground. So she waited till the the 20th of December.

They went to Humane Society to look at dogs. She looked at the first dog and it was a 10 year old spaniel, but he was too old (in that case they were looking for a girl dog). She passed some other dogs and she got to a golden short haired mutt who is on all four feet, jumping up and down at least 4 feet into the air. She passed that dog quickly and get to a springer spaniel-coon hunting dog whose name was Juliet. She wanted her but the lady said that that particular dog would need lots of exercise and would be hyper. She kept going and found a pretty retriever looking dog with a black coat. Ah, she was beautiful and wanted her, but(I still do not know why they didn't get her), she kept going. The lady who walked dogs said this next dog was the best dog in the place. She said she was so calm and loving and that if anyone wanted a low maintenance dog, here she was.

her little card-thing outside of the fence said this
Dawn $65.00
breed: Doberman/greyhound
Very sweet

Kind and gentle

Playful with toys

Likes other dogs

LOVES cats

Great with baths

Likes car rides

So the family bought her and put the chip inside of her (the father signed his life away for this dog too) and were about to walk out the door when this lady said that you can never chain up a greyhound - that they will pull till they die or they get off of the chain or rope. This family was not going to have an inside dog till she said those 21 little words.

End of part one

Death

Have you ever watched a movie and there was a line saying, " If I had only had a chance to say good-bye but now he is dead!'' It is all the same if you say good-bye or not to a loved one. I got to say good-bye to Bj and give him a kiss, but when I did so, I was pretty sure I was never going to see him again. Maybe we all just want another reason to be sad or, for some of us, just for self pity. I thought, "I wish I had cleaned Bj so he would sparkle in the sun or for that matter in the shade. I also wished I had gone on a trail with him one last time."

I really do not know why I am writing such an odd paragraph, but I just feel a need. Kinda odd for a twelve year old writing such a sad post.

How a Family Works

A hand full of "center" children were discussing how a family works .... most of the time.

There is the oldest the child who cannot decide some things if their life depended on it. Very organized ( until you arrive into their rooms, then it is a complete disaster). They make their younger sibling completely mad at how quiet and sensible they are.

Next is the middle child. They are known for being very out going - definitely not on the quiet side. Longing to be the center of attention, maybe that is why they are usually everybody's favorite... outside of the family. Then they just are a complete nuisance, and her family will not laugh at her completely funny, yet corny, but made up right on the spot jokes.

Then there is the youngest. Well, we really did not get there. I still have not figured them out.

P.S This family thing only works when there is at least three of the same gender.

Tribute to My Best Bud

My best friend who always made sure I never fell off of his back. The first boy I kissed and the only one to lick my hand for a peppermint. My first friend who was addicted to cribbing.
B.j was put down at 1:40 p.m today. I will receive a lock of his mane and a professional photographed picture of him. I hope he is enjoying life in horse heaven.

I am adding on so when I am 80 I will be able to tell my grand kids about our great friendship. He was a litttle taller than fifteen hands, had beautiful face with a white stripe down the middle with a deep red coat..... he looked like a horse you would see in a demonstration video or picture. He had a neck of a stallion; he thought he was a stallion but really was only a gelding. He could only swish his tail two inches to the right. He was not everyone's favorite horse to ride, for he was bumpy because his pasterns were short. Once he went for a swim in Mrs Wendy's pool at midnight.

The Untitled Post

I was sitting in the car on my way to the barn to go ride Bj and all the sudden I was thinking of all the times I had gotten aggravated with him, that he would not do this or that. It is not that he can't, but sometimes he decides he does not want to do it, but he was abused. People over worked him. He never knew the meaning of a holiday or that you are to keep the Sabbath day holy. He had nerves in his tail clipped because he carried his tail too high, so now he can not swish his tail and other things like that. And believe me, swishing away flies is important here in Georgia. So he does have his reasons for being a bit lazy and not liking the saddles and the arena. As I sat there, I wondered why I had never fallen off of a Bj, (I am known at the barn for falling the most of all Mrs. Wendy's students) but then I had realized he had taken care of me and whenever I start to lose balance he would slow to a walk, that he had loved me (or the peppermints I give him) as much as I love him (and that is a ton).

When we arrived, I saw Mrs. Wendy bringing Bj out of the pasture. I got out of the car and I asked what was up.

She said " Bj has a bad case of colic.* I am taking him to the hospital." I asked her what I could do to help and I did whatever she asked me. All the time things like this were going through my head: This might be the last day I see him. They might put him down. Dear God, please let him live. Through a few tears ( I don't cry when my relatives die) I told him good-bye, not knowing if I would ever see him again.

At 1:37 mother got a phone call saying the vet thought Bj was going to be okay, that he had gotten cecum impaction colic, and they will have him on fluids for forty-eight hours. Then, if all goes well, he can be picked up on Friday Also, Mrs. Wendy asked if I could go to a horse hospital with her to pick him up.

So there's your horse lesson for today.

* colic is a broad word for many types of tummy trouble (it can be fatal for horses)
